The inheritanceartdesign Studio developed out of the choice to leave the Commercial  Gallery directed Art scene in 1998. The Studio instead chose to be directed by faith in creating Artworks inspired by the prophetic words from the Scriptures. The Studio is Aboriginal owned and directed by Fern Martins. The Studio funds and directs community events, local artists exhibitions, murals, kids clubs and creative mission trips.

Fern is well known for her exquisite detailed drawings and spectacular watercolours. An artistic career spanning over 40 years, with her first one woman exhibition at the age of 19. Fern is represented in Galleries Nationally. Commissions from clients across Australia, noteworthy mention 3 totems paintings for the late Jimmy Little. Designing and illustrating for a variety of clients : Indij readers, Scholastic, Indigenous law bulletin, Australian General Practitioner Journal, NSW Swim and Safety, Magabala Publishers, Judy Gould speech pathology, local Schools and more. Fern has always participated with the development in Artistic Community Identity. A few highlights are initial developments of Women’s Art Space, Sculpture workshops, Artists for Aboriginal Lands Rights and the first Indigenous Urban Artists Cooperative, BOOMALLI. Fern's commitment in Community Art Actions are still flourishing at Swansea on Lake Macquarie through her teaching, Community art and Indigenous reconciliation projects. Recently, Fern has ventured into Indigenous children's book illustrations and exhibited in Bologna, Italy children’s book fair. Fern is the recipient of the Magabala Scholarship in 2013 and 2015.
